In the mid-1990s, Missy Elliott brought a different style to the game and made memorable hits. Without Missy Elliott, it’d be hard to imagine many of Aaliyah’s notable ballads, there would’ve been no Nicole Wray, and no Tweet. The latter two names didn’t last, but they had hits.
Missy Elliott also gave Ciara a lift, early in her career, boosting her to some pretty big hit records. What’s been forgotten is Missy Elliott also giving Janet Jackson a boost, in the 2001-2002 period. Missy Elliott remixed Janet’s “Son of a Gun” with Carly Simon, adding Diddy.
Sixteen years after “Son of a Gun,” Missy Elliott and Janet Jackson have remained friends. In fact, the two ladies posed for photos, following Janet’s most-recent show. When she shared her pic, Missy had a lot of kind things to say about Janet, and their friendship.
