Follow any news outlets that report on television and find the struggles of MTV are long reported. The role MTV held, the network abandoned for reality TV. Now, as they try to reclaim their position as the music leader, the competition is stiff.

Several media outlets exist that are dedicated to music. Countless pages on Instagram break artists on a daily basis, along with many other websites. All of that goes without even mentioning YouTube and the role it plays.

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards were hosted by Katy Perry and the speech from Paris Jackson is a classic. Attendees and performers included such names as Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma. Still, none of that stopped this year’s VMAs from being the lowest-rated award show of all-time.
