YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: Maxwell – “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder)”

By YRS Jerzy

It’s been a year since Maxwell released a new album, but he was never an artist who dropped music annually. When he did drop records, he made sure they were classics, though. In 1996, Maxwell came out the gate with a memorable record.

Looking back on it, 1996 was a memorable year for music, with debut albums from Lil’ Kim, Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, The Fugees, and 112. Along with new albums from Tupac, Nas, Aaliyah, Too $hort, Keith Sweat, K-Ci and JoJo, and many more. Find Maxwell’s debut in that mix.

Maxwell took over the summer of 1996 with his single, “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder),” holding its own with those veterans. The single was taken from his debut album, Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite, which is regarded as a classic. Twenty-one years later, this is the Wednesday Throwback for this week.
