After this album, no one should be trash-talking Jay-Z. Some rappers, who are not considered lyrical, say they are only game-spitters. But, with this 4:44 album, Jay-Z provided lyrics and common sense, spitting some of the realest game on life in a rap record.
Jay-Z has watched the game change and shift away from emcees like him. Among his peers, there’s only him and Nas who remain that are relevant to the current generation. With his last album, Jay-Z created a deal with Samsung that sold 1 million copies the first night.
Given TIDAL, the streaming changes with the RIAA, following Jay-Z’s purchase, and the Sprint deal, 4:44 was expected to go platinum. When it did, there was some outcry from the public. To calm that down, the RIAA spoke out about their decision to award a plaque to Jay-Z.
