On The Rise: Vhee Riv

By Carlos Cureno
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

A popular phrase in sports is “never underestimate the heart of a champion,” something that happens often. Because the road less traveled, or even untraveled, has no traffic, it is deemed impossible. The people meant to take that path know it is their legacy, however.

Vhee Riv is a very talented and promising artist who would not have been given a shot in the game, just a few years ago. There were certain “stigmas” that existed, in the eyes of those in control. But, the internet has proven anyone who wants it bad enough will win.

Knowing Vhee Riv and knowing her movement means knowing that there is no winner, no champion, like her. She is only a few months removed from her debut album and has one viral hit, already. Buzzing like this, Hip Hop Vibe had to catch up with her, so she could tell us a bit about her journey.

Read the entire interview below:

How does it feel to be one of the hottest up-and-coming rappers in the game? I feel blessed that my first project got the accolades it did it just fuels the fire to keep coming harder. I already started on my second album keep a eye out for it!

You’re really doing your thing right now, how long have you been putting music out? I remember my mom bought me a karaoke machine for Christmas, one year. I was about 8 or 9 and that’s when I started recording my own little rhymes over cassettes tapes. As I got older, I started going to studios but commercially, 2 years ago.

Can you give us the background story on how you and Mike Jones linked up? My manager got us connected. While we were putting together “Hold Up, Watch Out,” it was easy to imagine Mike’s voice on the track, so we reached out and made it happen.

What type of advice, if any, did he give you about the game? He just told me to continue making fire music and keep grinding.

You’ve gotten good feedback with your collaboration, “Hold Up, Watch Out,” are you happy with how well that song has done? I’m more than happy with the results, it all unfolded the way it was planned. The music video brought the whole project together.

When does the full project drop? I just recently released my first album, Zero Defects, on October 27th 2016. Now I’m working on dropping more videos for singles off the album.
