Hottie of the Week: Kiara Williams

By Stranga The Great
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Often, it is said that a person cannot be judged by how they start, but rather how they finished. Good examples of this include Jay Z and his billion dollar enterprise. Another is Steph Curry and his Golden State Warriors.

Soon, Kiara Williams will be added to this list, as this is a can-do woman and she does it all. Her passion is entertainment and she proudly admits to being an avid TV-watcher. Along with this, she is becoming a powerful force in the music industry.

Kiara Williams recently allowed Hip Hop Vibe a glimpse into her world for the latest Hottie of the Week edition. During her interview, she opened up on her background as a political science major, so she spoke on the current political climate. On a less-dramatic note, Kiara Williams would briefly discuss her children’s book, and much more.

Read the entire interview below:

It seems as if you’re a person who’s got it all together, what drives your ambition? Well, thank you! I definitely wouldn’t say I have at all together. There are still areas of my life where I am growing and maturing. But, I have been blessed with really amazing opportunities. I believe we’re all born with gifts, passions, and desires. Ambition is really just about being motivated to connect the three and execute. I’m a really big day-dreamer. I envision what I want, and then I make it happen.

In the past you’ve worked in the television aspect of the media, how did you end up in that particular field? I knew from a young age I would be working in entertainment. I’ve always loved great storytelling – movies, TV, music, all of that. Some parents don’t believe in letting their children watch television. I can respect that, but I was the complete opposite as a child. I would watch my favorite programs over and over, until I could recite all of the words. I love the ability media has to encourage, influence, educate and entertain people. I could be having a horrible day, watch my favorite TV Show (currently “Westworld”) and feel great after!

As a political science major, was this election season like anything you have ever experienced? There are things I love about politics, and things I don’t like very much. This past election season was hard for me, because it was overly combative. A lot of really important issues got overlooked in the midst of all the political drama.

With this background in mind, what do you think the urban community can expect out of a Donald Trump presidency? I’m hopeful. I think it’s going to be really important that we work together to get things done as a community, instead of relying on people in leadership roles to do things on our behalf. Obama had a great quote in his farewell address– “I am asking you to believe. Not in my ability to bring about change—but in yours.” That quote really inspired me. We have the power to create change!

You are also an author, can you tell us about the children’s book you recently wrote? I mentioned earlier that I love storytelling. I also love kids, so writing a children’s book just made sense. The book is about a little girl named Mireya, who follows an invisible dream that no one else can see. I don’t want to share details yet, but it will be available for purchase in the near future!

In 2015, you were honored as one of the top writers of the year. Can you explain that feeling? I felt so honored. I remember getting the email and thinking, wow are you sure? Me? My writing has opened so many doors for me. When I was in 7th grade, I wrote a poem about 9/11. It won a few awards, and my middle school hung it up for everyone to see. I was so proud. I used to walk past my poem in the hallway and smile to myself. Being honored by LinkedIn as a top writer kind of felt the same way.

You’ve already accomplished so much, what do you believe 2017 has in store for you? I’m transitioning from working in just programming to the music space. I’m working with a few new artists, doing some music licensing, and placements on their behalf, and I love it. That’s one of the reasons I love your website! It’s a great way to stay up to date with what’s happening in the world of Hip-Hop.
