Every presidential election since the 2000 election has been history-making in one way or another. The 2000 and 2004 elections were the first time, in modern history, where there was no clear-cut winner. Both elections were nail-biters.
Heading into the 2008 and 2012 elections, it was clear who was going to win, but it was historic that an African-American was running. Now, it is 2016 and this election is also making history. Unfortunately, it is because it has become a sideshow, pretty much.
Donald Trump has no political history and has spent the past twelve years as a reality TV star. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton won the nomination for her party at a time when interest in politics was low and few other candidates ran. Still, because of the entertainment value, Trump and Clinton made history, amassing 81 million viewers last night.
