When Lee Daniels spoke on “Empire” season two, he said the second season would focus on Lucious’ (Terrence Howard) background. He said viewers would learn exactly why he is how he is. Early details showed Lucious was an orphan and his father was killed.
Due to his father being killed by the Nation of Islam, Lucious Lyon had to be tough. This meant changing his name to Lucious from Dwight Walker, as he told Jamal (Jussie Smollett). Flashbacks of his mother (Kelly Rowland) showed Dwight had a tough childhood.
This season saw his mother, Leah (Leslie Uggams) revealed to be alive and she dropped a bombshell. As if Lucious marrying Anika (Grace Gealey) wasn’t enough, Leah revealed Tariq “The Freak” (as Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) calls him) is Lucious’ half brother.
