Certain people have held it down in urban cinema for years and a legend is Mekhi Phifer, not just for 8 Mile, either. Currently, he is out promoting Pandemic, his latest film. Having been around for some time, doing both television and film, Mekhi is a household name.

Recent years have seen sort of a renaissance for urban entertainment, as a whole. This period has seen a lot of names return to the forefront, including Laurence Fishburne, Terrence Howard, 50 Cent, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Taraji P. Henson. Many new names have also emerged.

Mekhi Phifer stopped by Sway for “Sway In The Morning” on Shade 45 to discuss his work. During the interview, he spoke on remaking Roots in order to educate the younger generation. He also discussed Pandemic, the latest movie he is starring in.
