During season one of “Empire,” Jussie Smollett’s Jamal was the breakout character of the show. Not only was his storyline compelling, his music also was popular with the fans. This season, Jussie Smollett has played a secondary role on the show.
Bryshere “Yazz” Gray’s Hakeem has been season two’s breakout star, but Jamal took the spotlight back. The openly gay Jamal shocked viewers when he slept with Skye Summers (Alicia Keys). In tonight’s episode, Jamal is dealing with the fallout of that.
Coming under scrutiny for his choice, Jamal was feeling the pressure and he stayed true to himself and made music. He recorded the song, “Freedom,” and performed it for the award show party. On Twitter, fans are giving Jussie Smollett tons of praise for giving them another hit, some even comparing him to Michael Jackson.
