Three years ago, Kendrick Lamar was on top of the rap world and living out all of his dreams. For a local kid growing up in Compton and the overall Los Angeles area, it was amazing to be co-signed by Snoop Dogg, Game, and Dr. Dre. That was only the tip of the iceberg, however.

Kendrick Lamar continued to score big, landing Jay Z on the official remix for “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe.” The song ended up being the final lead single from Kendrick for well over a year. Going on hiatus in early 2013, Kendrick Lamar returned late in 2014.

Rumblings of Kendrick Lamar releasing an album came in early 2015 and he dropped To Pimp A Butterfly as a surprise. Early on, the album received mixed reviews, but countless hip hop fans on the message boards could not stop talking about the album. It means a lot, seeing how Drake and Chris Brown dominated the year.

As the year of 2015 went on, not only did Kendrick Lamar continue to receive more and more praise for TPAB, the people continued talking about it. No, Kendrick Lamar is not enjoying the same level of attention he was during the 2011, 2012, and 2013 period, but he remains a much-discussed figure. With the masses all over the album, which was indeed a masterpiece, the people made To Pimp A Butterfly the album of the year.
