One of the most popular figures on the mixtape scene is Verse Simmonds, a native of Atlanta. Most people probably recognize Verse Simmonds best for “Boo Thang,” his hit 2011 single. In the years since then, Verse has continued being very busy.

Verse Simmonds recently had the attention of the urban music world during his FVCK Your Feelings III mixtape release. A lot of attention was given to “All I Want,” the Jeremih-assisted single. The record has done well over the past few weeks and continues to do well.

Recently, Verse Simmonds took time out to speak to Hip Hop Vibe about his new music. He has a lot invested in his newest mixtape release and his upcoming project. The talented singer/songwriter definitely let us know his focus during this current run.

Read the entire interview below:

Can you tell us about your recent mixtape release, FVCK Your Feelings III? I wanted to give my fans some new music to hold them over until Sextape Chronicles III. It’s a great opportunity to flip a track and give my own perspective to the melodies and song itself.

How did the collaboration with Jeremih come together? Me and Jeremih collaborated on his track “Can’t Go No Mo,” so when I was in the studio and J Hill sent me the track, I hit Jeremih to pull up on me to lay a
verse and he did. We do that often, if I’m working on something I’ll hit him and he does the same.

Why do you think the audience has connected with the track, “All I Want,” the way they have? It’s very nostalgic – I took one of the classic party records and gave it a totally different feel. It’s all about melody for me and it helps that the production is crazy. It’s summer time and people want to have fun.

What should the audience expect from the upcoming lyric video for that track? I wanted to put a simple lyric video out so that people could learn the song. It’s really catchy and I wanted to make it even easier.

Where can fans find you on social media? @versesimmonds on Twitter, Instagram and SnapChat. I just got on Periscope as well, I usually stream sessions.
