It was the 2003-2004 period that saw the end of Roc-A-Fella Records as the world knew it. This was when Jay Z and Damon Dash split, Kanye West emerged, and Jay was hired to run Def Jam. That period saw a lot happening, but Freeway talked to Hip Hop Vibe about the good times.

The official demise of Roc-A-Fella Records took place in the summer of 2008, when Jay Z bought out his contract with Def Jam. Happening months after he left his post at Def Jam as CEO, Jay Z partnered with Live Nation to form Roc Nation. This was his “super-label/management firm.”

A bulk of the artists Jay Z signed to Roc-A-Fella Records and Def Jam joined the Roc Nation management roster, including Kanye West. Ever since Kanye West got involved with Kim Kardashian, there were rumors of Kris Jenner trying to become his manager. This might be happening, as Kanye West has officially left Roc Nation, essentially firing Jay Z as his manager.
