There are many notable figures who helped put the Los Angeles hip hop scene on the map, back in the day. One who sometimes gets overlooked is DJ Quik, but he is a big figure on the scene. He was in the mix and doing his thing when NWA, Compton’s Most Wanted, and others took over.

DJ Quik plays an important part in the current hip hop landscape, also, as some current artists turn to him. While Kendrick Lamar is the highly-touted protege of Dr. Dre, he also has worked with DJ Quik. He also played a role on To Pimp A Butterfly, Kendrick’s newest album.

Recently, DJ Quik sat down with Montreality and he talked about his work with Kendrick Lamar. Discussing To Pimp A Butterfly, DJ Quik is a veteran in the game and he spoke on some older stories. In the interview, DJ Quik also talked about Tupac and Dr. Dre’s forever-awaited Detox, which is likely to never be released.
