The second half of the 2014-2015 television season saw hip hop score one of its biggest wins in history. Lee Daniels, best-known for bringing Precious and The Butler to life, teamed up with Danny Strong for “Empire.” This television series is a hip hop-themed soap opera.

Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson are the stars of the show, playing the divorced power couple, Lucious and Cookie. Trai Byers, Jussie Smollett, and Bryshere Y. Gray portray the sons, Andre, Jamal, and Hakeem. The latter two actors sing alongside Terrence Howard.

“Empire” recently began promoting their season one soundtrack compilation. The official album release is set for next week, which pits it against Rebel Heart, Madonna’s latest album. Numbers are already tallying in and the race between the “Empire” soundtrack and Rebel Heart from Madonna are currently neck in neck in numbers.
