In 2013, Troy Ave made bold claims early in the year about being the one to bring New York hip hop back to prominence. At the time, however, there were several newer New York artists were receiving mainstream appeal. But, Troy Ave was the main one speaking on his city.

After campaigning throughout the year, Troy Ave represented Brooklyn during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. Finally, at the end of the year, Troy Ave released New York City: The Album, his independent debut. In the months since then, he has been working on his new album.

Troy Ave paid a visit to Power 105.1, recently, and Angie Martinez ended up hosting him. In this interview, Troy Ave discussed his debut album, New York City, calling it the most important album released from an artist in New York in a decade. He went on to discuss Major Without A Deal, his new album that is due later this month, according to Instagram.
