After her performance at the Super Bowl, Missy Elliott is back in the spotlight and the headlines. The newer generation is trying to figure out just who Missy Elliott is. But, anyone who grew up in the 1990s and the early 2000s who knows hip hop knows the deal.
In 2001, Missy Elliott reached a new peak with Miss E …So Addictive, her third studio album. This album was led by the single, “Get Ur Freak On,” one of the most-creative music videos of all-time. Cameos in the video came from Ludacris, Nate Dogg, LL Cool J, Ja Rule, and Busta Rhymes.
Missy Elliott’s Super Bowl performance with Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz shows just how much time has passed. Her career has been on hiatus, for the most part, since 2005, but the year of 2001 was a big year for Missy Elliott. Given how much people are talking about her, it was only right to feature “Get Ur Freak On” as the Wednesday Throwback.
