HHV Exclusive: JJ talks Alabama movement, “Stay Outta My Lane,” and new music

JJBy Matthew Bridge
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

Last week, Hip Hop Vibe ran across an artist by the name of JJ who is making major moves on the Alabama hip hop scene. He recently released his new single, “Stay Outta My Lane,” which is experiencing success, both physically and online. With his movement on the rise, as a whole, Double Up Ent., the whole movement is working on solo material.

JJ feels as if the movement is hot enough, as a collective, for each member to go solo to build their own buzz. Thus far, JJ has proven himself right, as his “Stay Outta My Lane” single is doing very well. Now, the fans are waiting for the new project coming along with the single.

Hip Hop Vibe recently had the chance to talk to JJ and he discussed the movement going on in his native, Alabama. During the interview, JJ talked about “Stay Outta My Lane,” which is doing well. He went on to explain his hardships and talk about the new music he has coming up.

Read the entire interview below:

Can you talk about your movement, Double Up Entertainment? I feel, as a team, we can accomplish more by doubling up in each person’s efforts to hustle, contribute and bring more to the table. loyalty and motivation is the key to our group.

Why did you choose now to go solo? As a whole group, we are basically doing our own solo projects and meeting back up in the middle but still rocking with the name DOUBLE UP ENT. I mean I might have made something hot. But, my homie solo might be hot also. At the end of the day, we still working together and we’re just doing a solo project so we can find our own swag, fan base, and just be versatile to any environment. Loyalty before royalty and they still my people. Whoever make it first, we coming back to put my team on !never leave a soldier behind, you feel me.

Has watching guys like Yelawolf emerge from Alabama inspired you to go harder with your music? Being honest, no, but I respect the fact that he’s from Alabama, but he’s not my inspiration. He put on for the state and I respect that. My inspiration come from a different cloth of rappers, for example, I rocks hard with Pimp C, Young Jeezy, Yo Gotti, Don Trip, Big K.R.I.T., Joker, Cap1, T.I., and my boy, Meek Mill.

You dealt with serious injuries after being shot, what kept you alive, emotionally, during that period of time? I mean, emotionally, what kept me alive is believing in the man upstairs and just thinking of my family I can’t leave behind. They need me for guidance. I stick to the rule of God first, family second, and none above it.

Would you say that this shooting is what made you want to pursue rap heavily? No, but I really don’t want to discuss the past, at least about me being shot. That’s one of the worst moments I’ve lived. But, it’s an everyday occurrence where I live. People get shot every day, all my homies been shot at least once or dead now. Birmingham is the most dangerous city in the world.

Can you please discuss your record, “Stay Outta My Lane?” “Stay Out of My Lane” was inspired by these haters and disloyal ass niggas in the game. Always want to throw salt at any time shidd, they walk with salt in their pockets, ready to throw it out at any time. so basically I’m in my own lane, just stay out of mine and find your own point blank period.

When is your solo project going to be released? I’m pushing for the end of this quarter coming up. November or December.
