Last week was one of the weirdest weeks in hip hop, when Snoop Dogg and Iggy Azalea began beefing. It started off as a joke and soon Snoop Dogg was seriously going in on the first lady of Grand Hustle. Oddly enough, all of this was going on during the week of the airing of the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards, which Snoop Dogg hosted.
The past couple of years have been promising for Dr. Dre to release Detox, but the album has still yet to come. However, the unthinkable happened first, with Dr. Dre closing in on billionaire status before releasing the album. With all of this going on, it felt like the perfect time to revisit the West Coast’s 2000-2001 revival.
Dr. Dre returned with 2001 in 1999 and kicked the album off with “Still D.R.E.,” featuring his longtime partner, Snoop Dogg. At the time, the two had a bit of tension over their exits from Death Row Records, but they quickly moved past it. Fifteen years later, Hip Hop Vibe has them as the latest Wednesday Throwback.
