A few years ago, Shawnna was close to being one of the hottest emcees in the game. Signed by Ludacris, it looked like DTP would finally have the game on lock outside of their boss, which made sense. With Ludacris transitioning into acting and business, Shawnna had a chance to become the new focal point, until she didn’t.
Shawnna, instead, ended up falling out of the spotlight and she returned to headlines when she abruptly left DTP. Portrayed to be the bad guy, Shawnna received tons of negative press over the situation for years. The last straw took place during the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards when she was denied entry to the event.
Although BET invited Shawnna to be a part of the cyphers, DTP helped the network organize the show, as Shawnna told AllHipHop. Because of this, they blocked Shawnna’s involvement and she vented on how she never received proper promotion. Previously, Shawnna said she was cordial to DTP and she doesn’t understand the hate they gave her after she spent so much time and money getting to Atlanta.
