On The Rise: Rose Breyae

Rose BreyaeBy DJ Junior
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

The DMV area is home to some of the most unique forms of music talent. Yes, people from every area say this, but look at the go-go music and the impact that it’s had on the game. This entire area is filled with talented, musically-inclined, people, such as Rose Breyae.

This young lady sees no limits in her talents, which is what helps to make her such a dynamic artist. Rose Breyae has built a major online following through her music and she also has done modeling. Her music, however, has gotten her a lot of local traction, performing at venues and getting on local radio.

Rose Breyae recently did an interview with Hip Hop Vibe for the On The Rise segment. Here, she spoke to Hip Hop Vibe about the DMV area’s talent, who she looks to for inspiration, and much more. There is a lot to take in from this lady and she offers it all.

Read the entire interview below:

In the eyes of most people, the DMV area is just now beginning to blow up, but the area has produced stars for a long time, what’s your opinion on the talent that’s here? We have soooo much talent here in the DMV. I have performed at many venues in this area with dope talent so it doesn’t surprise that we are getting a lot of recognition. A lot more artists are daring to be different. A lot of songs in my personal playlist are from DMV artists.

You categorized yourself as “hip-pop/Rock-soul,” can you explain that mashup of genres and what your music is bringing to both the local and mainstream scene? I am an artist, period, so I see no limits to the type of music I put out. I can and will rock a Pop, Hip-Hop, Rock, Techno, Country, and of course R&B soul track. All of it is authentically me and it isn’t forced or an act. I just have so much love for music overall and its different genres. I was exposed to all types of music as a child thanks to Mom and Dad.

Who are some of the DMV artists who “made it” that you try to pattern yourself after? I am a fan of Wale, Dru Hill, Toni and Tamar Braxton, Mario, Mya, Trey Songz, JC Chasez of ‘N Sync, Chris Brown, Pharrell, and other artists who have come before me from the DMV in the past twenty years. But, I’m not out to pattern myself after anyone. But, these artists obviously had the talent and work ethic that is the standard to me. I don’t want to recreate what’s already been done. I’m giving the local and mainstream industry something new.

When Hip Hop Vibe interviewed J. Holiday, he spoke to us about how the DMV area has secretly crafted the sound everyone uses for years, do you agree with those statements? I DEFINITELY agree with J Holiday, the DMV has its own sound that has paved the way for a lot of great artists.

Being independent and going against the grain is very difficult and sometimes wins come few and far between, how do you keep yourself focused on the task at hand and looking forward to the dream, as opposed to the sometimes bleak reality? The mind is so powerful. I believe what you give the most energy to is what becomes your reality. I never focus on the negative, setbacks, and distractions. I focus on how my next performance is going to top my last and what new visuals I’m going to give in my videos. I love writing writing new music. I constantly visualize winning awards and most importantly how many lives will be changed be changed because I took a chance. Its bigger than me and the love for what I do keeps me grounded.

If there are any bleak spots, you definitely have a bright spot with the “Let You Know” single, how do you feel about the success of that track? I feel great! (laughs). “Let You Know” is a timeless feel good track. It gives you that feel when Hip Hop and Soul met and fell in love. I am pleased with the success of the track and it has been positive feedback. Haute Rod is a dope artist.

What was the feeling you had when you tuned into 92Q Jams Baltimore and heard your song playing for the first time? Hearing it come through my speakers on 92Q Jams was so surreal and a dream come true! I was SO excited I couldn’t stop screaming, (laughs) it just gave me a taste of what’s to come.

Now that your name is picking up weight in the industry, how have things changed on the local level for you? I get paid for shows and appearances and I get a lot of requests for interviews. It’s great being out and someone stops me and says “Hey I know you,I’m a fan of your music!”

Can you let the people know how they can find you on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter? It’s @rosebreyae for all three. My music is available on iTunes. For bookings, features, press, and interviews, email [email protected] or contact my manager L. Marie and she will definitely get back to you.
