CyHi The Prynce 3Atlanta has always been a focal point in the rap game and the current era of this city’s hip hop scene is extremely diverse. Guys like CyHi The Prynce are ensuring that Atlanta will always be in the focal point. His movement is just beginning to take shape, as he released the Black Hystori Project mixtape earlier this year.

CyHi The Prynce is a member of G.O.O.D. Music and he has been working alongside Kanye West for going on four years. But, the past few months, CyHi has gotten work in and has gained recognition for his own solo work. This has helped propel him to new heights.

With the summer almost here, CyHi The Prynce has a lot of big plans and he talked to Hip Hop Vibe about them. During his interview, CyHi The Prynce told the story behind Black Hystory Project and he also explained his role within G.O.O.D. Music. Read the entire interview below:

Okay, so your new project is titled History, but the spelling is a bit different with the “Y” in place of the “I” and vice versa, why is that? Well, I wanted to symbolically do black history without doing black history. So, let’s change history, which I want to do, and change black history. But, I love replacing Ys with Is, because my last name is Young, so it was fun to do to give a nice spin on words.

Aside from the occasional tweet, most rappers really don’t acknowledge Black History Month in their music, what made you decide to go in with a full mixtape dedicated to Black History Month? Well, what I did was, I wanted to make my version of Black History. My nephew wanted to do his Black History project on me, but the school told him no because I wasn’t important enough. So, I decided to do my own Black history project and let the kids know how talented they can be coming from the urban community. They can be great out here and I wanted to let the people know the color black is beautiful, there are so many things I want to explain and shine on blacks.

During a previous interview, you mentioned your family had ties to the King family, can you speak more in-depth on this? Yeah. Actually, my mom and dad, were married by Martin Luther King’s father. It was something I didn’t know until I was older, I forgot where they were married at, but I know King’s father married them.

Switching gears here, you are a member of G.O.O.D. Music and the roster is filled with diverse talent, what role would you say you play within the camp? I think I am more of the revolutionist. I am the leader, other guys have fun like Big Sean and them. Pusha is more of a street dude, Common is more conscious. But, I am the leader, I go all out on my music and that’s my role within G.O.O.D. Music.

All of you on G.O.O.D. Music are very creative, so when you all get together, what is the atmosphere like? I always tell people it is the real life version of Captain Planet. All of us together, we make Kanye and he is like the ultimate Captian Planet, he does all things.

You already have this project out, but do you have anything else in the works that the people should know about? I am actually getting ready to go on tour and I have the tour dates coming soon. I am secretly working on my album.

Alright, can you let the people know where they can find you on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram? Everything is CyHi The Prynce and my Instagram is @1CyHiThePrynce.
