Over ten years ago, Ashanti rose to fame as the first lady of Murder Inc. The musical chemistry between Ja Rule and Ashanti was undeniable, as she helped Ja continue his transition into a mainstream star. Unfortunately, Ashanti’s career would take major hits, early on, due to the situation with Ja Rule and 50 Cent.
How Ashanti and the whole camp rebounded, as a whole, is up for debate, but things were never the same. Following the release of her album in 2008, Ashanti officially left Murder Inc. and was openly criticized by Ja Rule. Fences were mended between the two and they are now back on good terms.
Ashanti recently released Braveheart and she stopped by Shade 45 to talk to Sway on “Sway In The Morning.” Not only did she discuss the new album, which boasts features from Rick Ross and French Montana, Ashanti also talked about her past. This, of course, included talks about Nelly and Ja Rule, but also her being a fan of Manny Pacquiao, whom she is singing the national anthem for before his upcoming fight.
