In 1996, Blackstreet returned with their Another Level album, which was their sophomore release. The lead single off the album was “No Diggity,” featuring Dr. Dre and Queen Pen. Those who remember this period of time know 1996 was a transitional year for Dr. Dre.

After being with Death Row Records for four years, Dr. Dre opted to leave the label during the height of their run. Internal drama led Dr. Dre to launch Aftermath Entertainment and reinvent himself. Working with Blackstreet provided Dr. Dre with the perfect opportunity to do just that.

Meanwhile, Blackstreet earned top forty success on Billboard with “No Diggity” when the single dropped. The later part of 1996 was owned by Blackstreet with this single. It’s been almost eighteen years since “No Diggity” originally hit the streets and it’s regarded as a classic, making it the perfect track for this week’s Wednesday Throwback.
