DJ YRS Jerzy’s Wednesday Throwback: LL Cool J – “I Need Love”

LL Cool J I Need LoveBy DJ YRS Jerzy
Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

In 1987, LL Cool J returned with his second album, Bigger and Deffer, which was released through Def Jam. This album featured a contrast to the previous music LL released on his Radio debut. LL Cool J included the “I Need Love” rap ballad that forever changed the rap game.

Twenty-seven years after LL Cool J blatantly asked for companionship, no rap album is complete without a track for the ladies. The mainstream careers of such names as Plies, Ja Rule, and Fabolous relied heavily on these anthems. But, LL Cool J was the originator.

Valentine’s Day is this Friday and people on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are already in the spirit for it. With love being in the air, this week Hip Hop Vibe decided to take it back to 1987 with this LL Cool J classic. “I Need Love” is the Wednesday Throwback this week and it originally topped the urban charts and peaked at number fourteen on Billboard.
