It’s almost strange to see and hear rappers from other areas talking about how New York fell off. This is strange because New York had an abundance of multiplatinum stars during the 1990s. A lot of potential laid with Mase, who took over the reigns of superstar at Bad Boy Records in 1997.

Mase built a significant fan base and he went quadruple platinum with his debut album, Harlem World. But, when Mase began working on his Double Up album, he had a surprising announcement. Instead of going forward with the album, Mase revealed he retired from the rap game to become a pastor.

Since 2004, Mase has been back in the game and he released the Welcome Back album, which spawned two minor hits. Furthermore, Mase has returned to his hardcore roots, as he has put out several mixtapes over the past few years. Recently, Mase talked to Hot 107.5 in Detroit about how he almost smacked J. Cole over a perceived diss, making money with Diddy, his past beef with Cam’ron, and more.
