The past couple of years have seen a new era of New Orleans hip hop emerge through new voices, such as Dee-1. His career has reached new peaks over the past few years, but his big break almost happened much sooner. Three years ago, Dee-1 released his “Jay, 50, Weezy” single, which turned heads.

Nodding Lil Wayne caught the attention of Cash Money Records and it soon appeared as if Dee-1 would sign to the label. This did not happen, but Dee-1 ended up working with Mannie Fresh. Now, Dee-1 has a label situation with RCA Records in their inspirational division.

Dee-1 visited Shade 45 to see Sway for “Sway In The Morning” and he went more in-depth about Cash Money Records. Being one of the next New Orleans artists to blow up, it would’ve been a good look for Dee-1 to sign to the label, but it was not in the cards. In his interview with Sway, Dee-1 explained this and more.
