Hip Hop Vibe Staff Writer

This summer, hip hop has experienced a renaissance with all the biggest rappers in the game releasing projects. In addition to the albums coming over the past couple of weeks, now Ace Hood returns with his new album. The other people who dropped albums this week were Kevin Gates, Mike Baggz, and Droop-E.

Ace Hood released his last mixtape at the end of 2012 and it set the stage for his fourth studio album, Trials & Tribulations. “Bugatti” with Future and Rick Ross became the breakout hit for the first half of the year. Kevin Gates, meanwhile, has had mixtape success in New Orleans and dropped his Stranger Than Fiction album.

Although New York City emcee, Mike Baggz, dropped a month ago, his album ended up flying under the radar. In addition to Mike Baggz, Droop-E returned today with his debut project, an EP, Hungry & Humble. This week may not have the flashiest of names, but the quality in music remains the same.

See the albums released this week below:

Trials & TribulationsAce Hood – Trials & Tribulations

Back with his fourth studio album, Trials & Tribulations, Ace Hood is sure to be successful. Landing Future and Rick Ross for “Bugatti” was a smart move because no one can take away from that hit record that certified gold last month. The next single, the Lil Wayne-assisted “We Outchea,” is also set to make some noise as the late part of the summer approaches. Trials & Tribulations is full of heavy-hitters, as Ace Hood collaborated with Meek Mill, Anthony Hamilton, Chris Brown, T.I., Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, French Montana, and more. These heavy-hitters are sure to help Ace Hood pull off strong sales in his first week.

Stranger Than FictionKevin Gates – Stranger Than Fiction

Kevin Gates has been an artist to watch for a couple of years now. He has received rave reviews from many renowned media outlets and received a lot of attention from his mixtape, The Luca Brasi Story. Today, however, Kevin Gates returned with his Stranger Than Fiction album, his first time releasing a project of this magnitude. Riding the breakout success of his single, “4:30 AM,” Kevin Gates also scored features from Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J. Kevin Gates appears to be the next face of the Louisiana hip hop scene.

Isolated + FadedMike Baggz – Isolated + Faded

Even though this album came out a few weeks ago, it showed up in the inbox this week and definitely deserves a look. New York City is still a city known for grinders and the definition of this is Mike Baggz, who returned with his debut album, Isolated + Faded, a street album. Mike Baggz is definitely making himself known and he did well with his recent album, keeping appearances to a minimum. As far as known names, the only guest appearance comes from French Montana.

Hungry & HumbleDroop-E – Hungry & Humble

Anybody know is familiar with the Bay Area hip hop scene should see something familiar with Droop-E’s cover for Hungry & Humble. Paying homage to E-40, the San Francisco rapper/producer dropped his EP today and he included appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Cousin Fik, and more. Production comes from Rick Rock and more.
