Nyomi Banxxx 2Chances are, the people who head over to the X-rated websites for “entertainment” at least recognize the face (and body) of this lady, even if the name does not ring bells. Nyomi Banxxx has appeared on several hip hop lists through her profession, but she recently ended her career. Entering the game in 2006, Nyomi Banxxx enjoyed a six-year run, where she won several awards for her work. Read the entire interview below:

How did you wind up doing adult films? Ooh. I have been in the industry for seven years now. The reason I got in the industry was to help out finances for my father and my mom, as we were looking for treatment for my father because he had a rare type of Diabetes 1. I did my research on the industry and saw it was a multi-million dollar industry, so I stayed in it.

Why did you even jump into this type of career? How I first heard about hardcore porn was in an advertisement for modeling and I thought I would be getting into something like Playboy and Penthouse. But, the casting director told me I would do good in videos and I assumed music videos, but it was adult. Then, my mom called me and told me about my father’s diagnosis and how much it would cost. So, that is when I went forward with the career to show a different style of black women because my look is different. Then, on a flight from Chicago, I was watching a Jenna Jamison documentary and then I checked out her DVD, did more research, and then six months later, I was shooting my first scenes.

Were you surprised at how successful your career became? No, because I am a go-getter. I knew exactly what I wanted to do and how I was going to do. I did most of what I wanted to do in the industry and now I am crossing back over into the mainstream.

You received a lot of acclaim for your film with Jada Fire, can you talk about that? Me and Jada, we have this chemistry. I cannot even explain it, but when I first got into the game, her and Marie Love were on top of the game. It was her, myself, and Candace Vaughn when we first met and the chemistry was phenomenal. I feel like she is an incredible talent, she is a trendsetter, especially with black performers, but I feel like she has not gotten her just dues yet. I also feel she is sexy as hell, which is a plus, I could talk about her all day, she is my boo boo.

Which film is a personal favorite of yours and why? There is a few of them and why is because there are different scenes that accomplished my goals. “Training Day” is one of my favorites because I transformed into and also “Nyomi’s Diaries” 1 and 2, I shot, produced, and directed those, and then Nyomi Banxxx’ hardcore, because I was the first black woman from to have my own movie originated just for me.

Recently, you retired from the industry, was it bittersweet at all for you? Yes it was! I have no horror stories from the industry, this industry opened doors for me and has given me a platform to do a lot of positive work. But, at times, I feel like I retired too quickly because there is a lot more that I wanted to do to show society something different. When it comes to porn stars, people think of only negative, like drug users and things like that. My life was nothing like that, my life is positive, I am a black porn actress, but judge me by what I do in my personal life. There is a lot I want to do for the black women in the industry, which makes it bittersweet, but I am also ready to move on.

You retired from one business and started another, can you tell us about Chocolate Radio? Actually, I have been doing radio for three years now. It is something I recently reinvented this show and made it what I wanted. Now, there is a lot of talent being allowed to create their own radio stations and this allowed me to have my own lane. What I have wanted to have a segment for music for independent artists, another passion of mine. I want the show to have a crossover appeal, not just sex talk, we can have athletes and celebrities. On this show, we can open up the freak side because we are all sexual beings, but it is encouraged to be kept away and on this show they can let it out.

How are you enjoying your radio career? I love it. I love it, this is my new retirement plan. I do not know how long it is going to be on Sirius though. If the contract does not get renewed on Sirius XM, I will take it to the internet and the Chocolate City name will carry over. We have fun, we have a great time, we are honest, the talk is about sex, relationships, and all kinds of crazy things.

What is it like working with Sirius XM? It is pretty good, it is nice. It has helped me to get some major artists in, a month ago, I interviewed Eve, Joe Beast an NBA player turned rapper, I have had Natalie Nunn up there and also Somaya Reece is to be on the show next. Now, we are expanding outside of porn stars into mainstream stars from all over and working with Sirius is great because there is no filter on their content.

Can you talk about some of the other things you are currently working on? I am working on a jewelry line that myself, my mom, and my sisters are working on. Plus, I have my own production company, called Thats Common Productions and I am looking for funding for new projects, I have my hands in some of everything. I am retired, but working harder than I was before.

Could you leave us your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram so fans can connect with you? My Twitter is @NyomiBanxxx, I am not on Instagram or Facebook and I have my website NyomiBanxxx.com and check me out Wednesdays on Sirius XM 102 Radio Sex on Choclate Radio.
