The Apollo to hold “Breakin’ Convention” from June 13-16 in New York City

Hip hop is much more than the rappers who pop up all over television, internet, and the magazines. This is a lifestyle that goes way beyond listening to the music. Included in this lifestyle, what is often mentioned is the clothing and the style, but hip hop is also a dance.

Break dancing is just as hold as hip hop, itself, and is incorporated in some of the earliest music videos. Please do not assume break dancing left hip hop. Instead, mainstream hip hop left break dancing. The internet opened doors for everything else and now it is time for break dancing to return.

The Apollo in Harlem is one of the oldest shrines of hip hop. Many careers have been made here and they are the essence of hip hop. Starting on June 13 and continuing until June 16, The Apollo will be holding a breakin’ convention and dancers, DJs, and graffiti artists are welcome to come out and watch the performances and partake in the workshops.
