Until Lupe Fiasco returns with a new album, hip hop’s only dose of conscious lyrics comes from their resident prisoner, Talib Kweli. Earlier this week, Talib Kweli released his new album, Prisoner of Conscious. With the album out, Talib Kweli has been out and about, talking to the media.

Despite the truth in his lyrics and his topics that focus on things going on right now, there are many rappers who will overshadow Talib Kweli. Of course, the Brooklyn rapper knows and understands this. In actuality, Talib Kweli maintains strong friendships with mainstream rappers.

Talib Kweli stopped by Hot 97 to talk to Angie Martinez about all that is new in his life both in and out of music. Prisoner of Conscious was the primary topic of the interview, but of course Talib Kweli was asked about Rick Ross’ drama. The veteran rapper revealed they had a conversation after the “U.O.E.N.O.” verse became high profile.
