Spending almost a decade trying to move the Nets from New Jersey to Brooklyn, when Jay-Z finally did, he left the franchise. Back in 2003, Jay-Z traded in the mic for a suit and a tie (no pun intended) to focus on his business interests. Among the ventures Jay-Z was involved in was a minority ownership stake in the New Jersey Nets.

By 2010, Jay-Z hoped the Nets would reside in Brooklyn, but this did not happen until 2012. In the 2012-2013 season, the Nets played well, just not well enough. The day after the Nets secured their playoff spot, Jay-Z relinquished his stake in the Nets in favor of sports management. But, last night, the Nets lost in the first round to the Chicago Bulls.

“On to the next one,” however, Jay-Z is a part of a group interested in redesigning Long Island arena, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. NHL team, the New York Islanders played their games here, but are relocating to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. Jay-Z and company hope to redesign the arena, but the county will vote before a decision is officially made.
