Last year, Ab-Soul took over the underground game with his Control System, one of the highest-rated albums of the year. But, Control System was not the source of the biggest headlines for Ab-Soul. Instead, Ab-Soul speaking up for the self-proclaimed “cop killer,” former officer, Chris Dorner, captured the biggest headlines.

Over the years, Los Angeles hip hop has changed, but it has remained controversial, especially when it came to social issues. Recently, though, Ab-Soul has taken a backseat, as Kendrick Lamar continues dominating headlines. ScHoolboy Q also has absorbed a lot of the spotlight, promoting his “Yay Yay” single.

Ab-Soul recently caught up with Young Jack Thriller for ThisIs50.com. In this interview, they talked about a little of everything. With so many rappers going to prison, Ab-Soul spoke on the hip hop police and saying he believes it exists. He also talked about doing the skits on Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d. city.
