There have been quite a few mentions of Atlanta’s influence on the rap game. Rappers from such cities as Detroit, Miami, New York City, Los Angeles, and other areas have come to Atlanta, adapting their sound, for attention. But, Atlanta’s hip hop scene may have been different had it not been for Philadelphia.
DJ Drama has been primarily associated with Atlanta, as has his music. But, in actuality, he is from Philadelphia. This is reflected on his “My Moment” single with 2 Chainz and Meek Mill. Alongside DJ Drama is his partner, Don Cannon, who is also a Philadelphia transplant in Atlanta.
Philadelphia-based Hip Hop Since 1987 recently took a trip down to Atlanta where they had the chance to talk to Don Cannon. In this interview, he spoke on his influences, which include Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. Don Cannon also talked about how he wanted to have different sounds to go with his music, so Atlanta worked for him.
