Rightfully so, a lot of credit has gone to Future for his success both as an artist and as a label executive. But, had it not been for the efforts of Rocko and his decision to include Future in his Epic Records’ deal, this may be a different story. Fortunately, it has not been and Rocko has managed to build an impressive track record.
Reversing five years, Rocko was fresh off his “Umma Do Me” single. At the time, Rocko was best-known for his relationship with Monica. Looking to build a name outside of his relationship, Rocko gave Def Jam reason to look into the future. But, Rocko soon faded into the background and was one of many Def Jam artists to leave the label.
Rocko reunited with L.A. Reid at Epic Records and he then unleashed Future onto the game and the world is still enjoying that one. Indirectly, Rocko has also played a major role in several members of Freebandz Gang’s success. THE FADER had Rocko stop by and he talked about his transition from music to business.
