Hip Hop’s Top Vacation Spots: Saint-Tropez

“I like South Beach, but I’m in Saint-Tropez” was Jay-Z’s response to the rappers who bragged about their vacations to Miami. Admitting he liked Miami, Jay-Z brought a hip hop spotlight back to Saint-Tropez, France. However, before Jay-Z ever uttered a word about Saint-Tropez, Diddy was rapping about Saint-Tropez visits.

Back in 2002, Diddy and Jennifer Lopez officially ended their relationship and he did not waste any time moving on. Using his music as an open advertisement, Diddy announced to the world he needed a new woman. Diddy launched the “I Need a Girl” series and on the official remix with Ginuwine, Loon, and Mario Winans, he boasted of Saint-Tropez trips.

Initially, the hip hop world assumed the place being rapped about was a place called “San Dro Pe,” but it is spelled St. Tropez. Located on the South of France, Saint-Tropez has also become another place where hip hop has become prominent. Now, rappers do not only vacation in Saint-Tropez, instead they also perform high-class shows in the city. While Rick Ross traveled to Anguilla to film the music video for “Diced Pineapples” with Wale and Drake, he rapped about taking trips to the French Riviera, where Saint-Tropez is located.

Out of all of the vacation spots, Saint-Tropez is one of the most-exclusive. Very few people can simply jump from the winter wonderland that is the 2013 spring on the East Coast and most of the United States to go into the old world and vacation. It takes someone with net worth’s similar to Jay-Z and Diddy to simply hop across the Atlantic Ocean and go to Saint-Tropez and take in the old world culture.

Hip hop has grown, not simply because of the money it brings into the industry. But, for such places as Saint-Tropez to be mentioned as frequently as they are in rap lyrics, it shows how far the rap game has come since its inception in the mid-1970s.

St. Tropez 2Saint-Tropez has become a prime place to visit for the hip hop world. Jay-Z, Diddy, Ludacris, Rick Ross, and others have name-dropped the French city countless times. In mentioning a destination point for the hip hop world, Saint-Tropez should definitely top the list.

Jay-Z in Saint-Tropez

St. Tropez Jay-ZGrowing up is a hard thing to do and despite his best efforts, Jay-Z was not quite able to grow hip hop up in 2006. Jay-Z released Kingdom Come during the fall of 2006 and he spoke on the things an adult hip hopper should know about. Among the vacation spots he rapped about, as previously told in this article, was Saint-Tropez. Another place Jay-Z and Beyonce go to avoid the public is Saint-Tropez and they were snapped during a recent trip out to France.

Back in 2002, Diddy let the world know he was single and looking to change his relationship status. How does a man “internationally known on the microphone” go about finding love? Expressing his desires and what he brings to the table, of course. After releasing “I Need a Girl,” Diddy teamed up with Ginuwine, Loon, and Mario Winans for “I Need a Girl, Pt. 2.” On the song, Diddy rapped about trips to Saint-Tropez among other luxurious places and things.

Dr. Dre in Saint-Tropez
St. Tropez Dr. DreArguably more elusive than Jay-Z in the game is Dr. Dre. At least the hip hop world can get albums out of Jay-Z. The same cannot be said for Dr. Dre, but he does drop new music periodically. Much like the other ballers in the game, Dr. Dre takes time off and he is known for taking in trips to Saint-Tropez along with the best of them.
