One person notably missing in 2012 was J. Cole in a year that was full of unexpected comebacks and major debuts. In the spring, J. Cole made a brief return when he brought fellow Southerner, Missy Elliott, back. Aside from “Nobody’s Perfect” and the official music video, nothing major came from J. Cole in 2012.

Clearly, J. Cole was not even in the running for MTV’s “Hottest MCs in the Game,” which was won by Kendrick Lamar. In 2011, Kendrick Lamar was the big breakout artist, stealing the show on Game’s “The City.” During this time, J. Cole revealed he had an album in the works with Kendrick Lamar.

Recently, J. Cole was in Atlanta and he had a chance to talk to DJ Drama. During the interview, he talked about MTV’s list and also his work with Kendrick Lamar. J. Cole also explained “Power Trip” featuring Miguel, working with Missy Elliott, and a verse he recorded for Lil Wayne’s Dedication 4 that Jay-Z made him keep for himself.
