Since today is the sixteenth anniversary of The Notorious B.I.G.’s death, everyone is chronicling the things accomplished by B.I.G. during his lifespan. No one can ever compare to The Notorious B.I.G.’s life. However, The Notorious B.I.G. was more focused on Life After Death.
Thirteen years after The Notorious B.I.G. died, DJ Khaled rose from being only known as the DJ for Fat Joe for being one of hip hop’s fastest-rising stars. One can say DJ Khaled literally took the game over. In 2007, DJ Khaled released his We the Best album that launched his movement and the first single was “We Takin’ Over.”
A breakout single, DJ Khaled featured Akon, T.I., Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Birdman, and also, Lil Wayne, on the single. Early in the summer of 2007, the music video was released. Giving in to the Rick Ross/Notorious B.I.G. comparisons, the music video shows Ross being driven in reverse, paying homage to “Hypnotize.”
