Early in his career, Ja Rule was popular, but had yet to carve out his own identity. But, all of this changed when Ja Rule proved he had a knack for those rap/sung ballads. A number of singing partners came and went before Ja Rule reached record-breaking heights with Ashanti.
Ja Rule went from being one of numerous rap stars to the biggest rapper on the planet when he began collaborating with Jennifer Lopez. Their songs became anthems, but few knew Ashanti provided songwriting and background vocals for the hits. In 2002, Ja Rule released “Always on Time” as Pain is Love‘s third single and things changed.
Ashanti would have a falling out with Irv Gotti, who replaced her with Ashley Joi. There could have been some success with Ja Rule and Ashley Joi, but they were never given a proper shot. However, Ashanti has always had love for Ja Rule and she, like him, is trying to stage a comeback. With Ja Rule set to be released from prison this summer, Ashanti told The Huffington Post that she has been talking with him and they are interested.
