Another amazing week in hip hop is over and there were many songs which made a major impact. Now up to week three, it is getting harder and harder to choose just five songs for the week. But, it takes determination to press on and deliver what has been determined as the “Top Five Songs of the Week.”

There have been quite a few independent artists submitting music for consideration on the “In the Mix” show. These artists deserve a special thanks and shout out for delivering good music. Many of the hottest songs this week came from these independent artists, as opposed to the majors.

One independent artist in particular, Jaguar Kash, who is the former freestyle champion of BET’s “106 & Park, is making really good music. This week, Jaguar Kash had to be featured on the “Top Five Songs of the Week.” Joey Bada$$ is another strong independent artist is also featured this week.

Listen to “In the Mix’s” Top Five Songs of the Week below:

Jaguar Kash – “Cuz U Kno I”

Former “106 & Park” Freestyle champion, Jaguar Kash, turns it up to 2000 degrees on this anthem as he schools you to his swagger. Fresh from working with MMG Latino artist, A.G Cubano, Jaguar Kash is earthqauking in blocks around the states right now stay tuned for Kash and the Mafia team in 2013 he might just be the one that takes the game by storm.

Joey Bada$$ ft. Chance The Rapper – “Wendy N Becky”

If hip hop has died, then my money is on Brooklyn’s own youngster, Joey Bada$$. Joey cites hip hop heavyweights Madlib, DJ Premier, and J Dilla as his idols and you can tell from the Smokers Lounge horns sampled on this, as he brings in Chance The Rapper to tell the world exactly whats up with “Wendy N Becky.” Joey is a top choice to bring the noise with the boom bap this year.

Jay Sean – Where You Are
R&B heavyweight and YMCMB’s only UK signee, Jay Sean, is back and he recently changed the title of his upcoming album to Neon, and now he releases the first single from that LP. “Where You Are” is driven by a rhythmic guitar with Jay Sean’s vocals making this a must-have for an R&B lover this summer.

Azealia Banks – “Barely Legal” (Prod. by Lindbergh Palace)

Azealia Banks is consistently dropping fresh, new, music weekly right now and what better way to follow up her remix of the Baauer-produced “Harlem Shake” with a cover of The Strokes’ 2001 song, “Barely Legal,” with a dance remix twist … and this is definitely very good. Banks debuted the song on a New Zealand radio station on Thursday.

Marvell – “G.R.E.A.T.N.E.S.S”

London trio, Marvell, spell out what greatness is about in this rock-influenced jam. You can sense the swagger that has seen YMCMB front man, Drake, work with the group within the last year and by the looks of what they have achieved so far, greatness is definitely in sight.
