Quite a bit has changed over the past year. MTV has chronicled the changes that took place in hip hop in 2012. Ultimately, Rick Ross took the crown home for his 2011 efforts and he appeared to be ready to continue his run into 2012. Despite releasing a chart-topping album with God Forgives, I Don’t, Rick Ross lost his grip as the main focus.

In 2012, several veteran emcees made comebacks, most notably Nas. Meanwhile, there were many other newcomers who will likely be included. Though he was making moves last year, A$AP Rocky did not completely take off until the second half of 2012. There are also many other rappers who were not on the previous list that likely will now be.

Setting the stage for the latest edition of “Hottest MCs in the Game VIII,” MTV released the official trailer for the special. Of course, Sway Calloway is leading the pack, as he is the host and a member of the “brain trust.” Sway also announced “Week in Jams” will play a major role in “Hottest MCs in the Game VIII.”
