Once he finally released his debut album, J. Cole promised he would do as his boss, Jay-Z, once did and release a new album every year. At the time, J. Cole felt as if he could do this at ease. After all, Drake released albums in consecutive years, but even he refrained from releasing a 2012 album.
An album in 2012 was not in the cards for J. Cole, but 2013 appeared to be the year when he could return with a new album. Late in 2012, J. Cole revealed his next album would come in January 2013. A$AP Rocky and Joe Budden made similar statements, but only one would actually deliver an album.
However, J. Cole has released “Power Trip,” featuring Miguel, as the first single off his upcoming sophomore set, Born Sinner. Recently, J. Cole talked about how his second album was coming together. MTV News talked to J. Cole and he spoke on why he chose this single to launch his new album.
