Later this year, Talib Kweli will release his upcoming album, A Prisoner of Consciousness, which has been due for some time. Before his own solo career became all that it is, Talib Kweli and Mos Def were Black Star. The duo was probably best-known for their anti-commercial themes.

Black Star rose to prominence in the game during the same time Bad Boy Records ushered in the “Shiny Suit era.” While the masses loved the music from Puff Daddy, now Diddy, and Mase, along with the rest of the label. However, Black Star showed themselves to be opposites of this movement.

Talib Kweli recently talked to MTV News about a confrontation he had with Diddy, during this period of time. In one of their songs, a remake of Slick Rick’s “Children’s Story,” the duo took aim at commercial rappers. Diddy wound up confronting Talib Kweli over this and the latter gave details in his latest interview.
