Reality television has greatly changed since the days when MTV debuted “The Real World” and the original “Making the Band” premiered on ABC. In the time since then, reality television has honed in on urban entertainment. This transition began with such shows as “Flavor of Love” and is currently dominated by “Love & Hip Hop” and others.

Previously, Oxygen gave VH1 a bit of a challenge when they debuted “The Bad Girls Club” and they planned to do it again with Shawty Lo’s “All My Babies’ Mamas.” Many black activist groups have called for the cancellation of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and the others because of the negative portrayals of black people. Oxygen’s planned special with Shawty Lo took the cake.

Throughout Atlanta, Shawty Lo is known for his frequent mixtape releases and fathering eleven children by ten mothers. During the week of Christmas, Shawty Lo released the official trailer for “All My Babies’ Mamas.” Even more carefree television viewers took offense to the theme of the show, billed by most as ignorant. Yesterday, there were rumors of the show being pulled, something Oxygen initially denied, but has now been confirmed.

Perhaps feeling the pressure from several activist groups, Oxygen released a statement to The Grio.

Read the statement below:

As part of our development process, we have reviewed casting and decided not to move forward with the special. We will continue to develop compelling content that resonates with our young female viewers and drives the cultural conversation.
