From 2006 through 2008, T.I. enjoyed the biggest success he ever has in the rap game, as everything came together. Previously, T.I. only was a bit bigger than being a regional artist. But, T.I. switched gears and showed he could be the top artist, no matter where he was from.

However, T.I.’s biggest successes came after the death of his best friend, Philant Johnson, who ended up being gunned down in 2006. King includes the “Live in the Sky” single, dedicated to Phil. After his friend died, T.I. began receiving threats about his own death, prompting him to load up on guns and he was caught in 2007 and arrested.

Caught right before the 2007 BET Hip Hop Awards, T.I. ended up awaiting trail and was sentenced to one year in prison. Fans stuck with T.I., as they knew the reason he did all of this. During his interview with Vlad TV, T.I. opened up on how all of this impacted him, at the time.
