After working with Game and later Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar officially joined Aftermath and the rest was history. Early in 2012, Kendrick Lamar began working on his official debut album, good kid, m.A.A.d. city. Once the album was released, Kendrick Lamar found himself a critically-acclaimed artist.

What used to be rare was an artist gaining commercial and critical success on the same album. The hip hop game has changed, with commercial success being rated differently than it once was. However, Kendrick Lamar has found himself commercially and critically successful.

good kid, m.A.A.d. city followed 2 Chainz’ Based on a T.R.U. Story and was certified gold by the RIAA. With the album going gold, Kendrick Lamar has outsold the veterans, Game and Big Boi. MTV News recently spoke to Kendrick Lamar about going gold and he said the feeling is still unreal.
