It took over twenty years, but Kendrick Lamar found himself the artist able to break through and show a different side of Compton. Since Eazy-E introduced the world to the city of Compton, hip hop critics labeled the city full of hardcore rappers. But, this was not completely the case.

Producing such artists as Ice Cube, Compton’s Most Wanted, and Game, it was difficult to see any diversity. But, Kendrick Lamar did just that with good kid, m.A.A.d. city, an album that followed up several independent albums. With the exception of Shyne, the world is pleased with good kid, m.A.A.d. city.

At a time when hip hop needed it, Kendrick Lamar came through with a classic debut album. While he argues more time needs to pass, the rest of the world can freely speak on his body of work. Fans and critics agree that good kid, m.A.A.d. city was the best album released this fall. Now, the RIAA has even been brought into the mix, with good kid, m.A.A.d. city certifying gold.
