Close to two years since Wale joined Rick Ross’ Maybach Music team, he has completely reinvented himself. Initially, Wale was simply a lyrical rapper from the DMV area, the first rapper to gain mainstream success from Washington, DC. Interscope Records signed Wale, but the deal quickly soured.

However, at Maybach Music, Wale developed an entirely different style and had a new wave of confidence going into his Ambition album. The album featured the standout single, “Lotus Flower Bomb,” with Miguel. One year ago, during this time, the song received a substantial amount of radio play.

Now, “Lotus Flower Bomb” will have an impact on 2013 at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. Earlier today, it was announced that “Lotus Flower Bomb” will be nominated for Best Rap Song, along with Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Niggas in Paris.” Going against his manager, Wale said he was speechless at first and is glad his work paid off.
