Making history, to a guy like Jay-Z, is just as simple as making money. Hailing from the streets of Brooklyn in New York City, Jay-Z defied the odds to become successful. But, over the years, Jay-Z has proven to have much more than success in the rap game. Jay-Z took the money initially made from rapping and used it to branch out into other ventures.

After his “retirement” from the rap game, Jay-Z truly “bossed up” when he bought into the New Jersey Nets. Named a creative director of the franchise, Jay-Z made his intentions of moving the team to his native Brooklyn clear. Because the move was still within the New York City Metropolitan Area, the move did not need permission from the NBA.

Close to a decade after Jay-Z made these grand plans, the Brooklyn Nets are set to premiere in a little over a month. The 40/40 Club has been one of Jay-Z’s best-known business ventures outside of making music. With the Nets being a close second, Jay-Z has combined the two, inviting MTV News behind the scenes with him as he opens his latest club, inside the Nets’ new home in the Barclay’s Center.
