A decade ago, many could not fathom a hip hop world without Missy Elliott releasing a new album every year. But, for the past seven years, this has been the case, as Missy Elliott has been all but forgotten. Over the past five of those seven years, however, Missy Elliott has attempted several comebacks.

In 2007 and until 2008, Missy Elliott prepared her Block Party album. During this period of time, Missy Elliott worked with Keyshia Cole. Helping her to avoid a sophomore flop, “Let it Go,” which also featured Lil’ Kim, was a success. After producing the Keyshia Cole hit, Missy Elliott vanished until she released her “Ching-A-Ling” single.

Four years later, Missy Elliott has released two singles on the same day. “9th Inning” and “Triple Threat” both feature Timbaland, who is producing her entire album, just like the old days. The two have already performed their new music in Miami and they visited New York City, stopping by Hot 97 and now Power 105.1’s “The Breakfast Club.” Missy Elliott would discuss her comeback attempts and, with Timbaland, she would also discuss Drake producing Aaliyah’s posthumous album, which DMX criticized.
